13 Star Flag - Silk - Betsy Ross Pattern

13 Star “Betsy Ross Pattern” American National Flag
made by the descendent of Betsy Ross; Sarah Wilson or Rachel Albright

This lovely 1900 Cir, silk, American National Flag displays 13 hand- embroidered stars, exhibiting one of the most recognized and sought after star patterns on the American Flag, the “Betsy Ross” American National Flag. It is entirely hand-sewn by either Rachel Albright, Betsy Ross’ granddaughter or Sarah Wilson, her great granddaughter.

It is conceivable that Betsy Ross may have made the first American National flag in 1777, however to date it has yet to be ultimately confirmed or disproven. Rachel Albright, the granddaughter of Betsy Ross, began making small-scale flags such as this one, replicating the original Betsy Ross flag, from the East Wing of Independence Hall in Philadelphia in the late 1800’s. These flags were individually made, making each one unique with slightly delicate differences nevertheless they are easily identified by their distinct pattern, material and most importantly the manner in which it was constructed. Sarah Wilson, Betsy Ross’ great-granddaughter joined alongside Rachel until the early 1900’s then continued the legacy solo until about 1913.
