Striking antique American National flag, displays 13 double appliquéd stars that showcase a single center star surrounded by a wreath of 8 stars and 1 star flanking in each corner. Flag offered is dated from the late 19th century to early 20th century and boasts a medallion pattern that was popular at a time the Nation was celebrating the centennial Independence in 1876.
Thirteen star flags represent the original 13 colonies of the United States. On June 14, 1777 the US Continental Congress adopted a resolution that stated: Resolved, the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes and alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation.” As new states were added to the union a star was added to the flag for each new addition.
Considered one of the most popular flags being used today, the 13 star American flag can be seen in patriotic celebrations, in parades and in homes and offices, and on Navy boats and private vessels alike.
Description/Condition
Flag is made of wool, colors are vibrant; 13 double appliquéd cotton stars attached to the canton with zigzag stitching in a medallion pattern; stripes attached with lock stitching; the hoist is made of cotton with a faded stamped rectangle encompassing the words 2x3 Standard., and contains 2 metal grommets.
Flag is in excellent condition for it’s period and use, minimal pinholes and last white stripe has minor pinhole size stain
