Notched Pattern | Circa 1896-1907

Presenting this handsome 1900’s ca. antique 45 Star American National Parade Flag in bold red, white and blue colors printed on glazed gauze with stars arranged in straight rows in a 7-8-8-8-8-6 notched pattern. Parade flags such as this one were typically used in parades, inaugurations and celebrations.

The 45-Star flag represents the inclusion of Utah, admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896 and became the official star count later that year on July 4, 1896. The 45-Star flag remained official for 12 years up until the inclusion of Oklahoma, the 46th State officially added to the Union on July 4, 1908. The Spanish-American War fought under this flag, and Presidents to serve during this time were Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, and Teddy Roosevelt.

Condition is excellent for it’s age, several folds, one vertical fold top to bottom caused while it was stored several more folds along the fly, 1 small nail hole top left side where it was originally attached to the staff, blue overlay color on the left vertical, aging paint loss on the canton and a few stars.
