Abraham Lincoln Campaign Banner - 19th Century

Abraham Lincoln Campaign Banner, 19th Century

Stunning representation of a 19th Century Lincoln banner printed with black-stenciled letters “A. LINCOLN for PRES 1864”. Examination of this Banner reveals a blend of cotton and flax threads commonly found in eighteenth and early nineteenth- century fabrics. We are unable to confirm this banner was made at the time of the election as the possibility exists it may have been made post election to commemorate President Abraham Lincoln’s re-election victory.

Abraham Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States on November 6, 1860. He led the nation through the American Civil War and succeeded in preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, bolstering the federal government and modernizing the U.S. economy. On November 8, 1864 Lincoln was elected to a second term that ended abruptly on April 14, 1865 when he was assassinated, and subsequently died on April 15, 1865.
