Small, vintage American parade flag is an excellent choice for the beginner collector or all around history buff.

American parade flag with 50 printed stars on a dark blue canton represents all 50 states in America along with 13 stripes representing the 13 original colonies.
Alaska and Hawaii admitted into the Union in 1959 as the 49th and 50th states has remained the longest length of time the stars and stripes remained an official star count in U.S. history.

The design of the 50 Star flag has a remarkable story about how it all came about. Robert G. Heft the official designer of the flag always had a love of U.S. flags and history as a child so in 1958 when he was a junior in high school and given a U.S. history homework assignment it didn’t take him long to figure out he wanted to draw a design of a future U.S. flag with 50 Stars to include the possible addition of Alaska and Hawaii to the Union. Heft’s design with fifty stars on the flag puzzled the teacher, as there were 48 states currently in the union. She gave him a B- on his homework assignment and stated he should have known the official star count on the U.S flag had 48 stars. He explained his creative project included 50 stars instead of 48, was designed with the possibility of the addition of Alaska and Hawaii joining the Union. She was unimpressed and said if you don’t like your grade bring it to Washington and see if they accept it, and he decided to do just that. It took two years, 21 letters and 18 phone calls to the government when Heft finally received a call from President Dwight D. Eisenhower who personally invited him to Washington, D.C. on July Fourth for the official adoption of the new flag that he designed. Heft returned back to his History teacher and after all that the teacher changed the grade to an A.  Robert Heft was a seven-term mayor of Napoleon, Ohio and went on to inspire the young and old with his “follow your dreams story. He was invited to speak at approximately 200 engagements a year and visited the White House 14 times under nine presidents. Heft passed away in 2009 and left behind an American legacy and a 51 Star version of a future American flag with the possible addition of Puerto Rico that may some day be added to the Union.
