Aficionados of Abstract Expressionism: Offered is an abstract expressionist black ink composition on drawing paper, untitled, initials “RD 52” in the upper right hand corner. Being sold as “attributed to” or “in the manner of” Richard Diebenkorn.

During the 1940’s and 50’s Richard Diebenkorn lived and worked in various locations; including New York City and Woodstock New York, Illinois, Berkeley California, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the early 1950’s Diebenkorn influenced by several great artists; Clyfoord Still, Arshile Gorky and William de Kooning, had adopted abstract expressionism, and in 1952 he enrolled under the G.I. Bill at the University of New Mexico’s graduate of fine-arts department where he created his own version of Abstract Expressionism

The Artwork was purchased in 2018 from an estate auction in Westport Connecticut. The drawing was examined under a microscope; the signature, style and composition appear correct however, authentication is not an exact science and open to the opinion of the examiner or expert.
